Björn Knapp | Nadjana Mohr. Stratum Pink
Plain Gallery è lieta di presentare Stratum Pink, prima mostra in Italia dei giovani artisti tedeschi Björn Knapp e Nadjana Mohr.
La parola “strato” comprende molteplici definizioni, rendendola un termine universale per descrivere una particolare forma di “strato” nel proprio campo di competenza. Ampliata con il colore rosa carnoso, la mostra “Stratum Pink” è rivolta alla controparte fisica.
Le opere di Nadjana Mohr e Björn Knapp si basano su un approccio in cui il (proprio) corpo funge da catalizzatore per lo sviluppo della pittura. Un approccio comune è la comprensione che la pittura trae sempre la sua legittimità attraverso un’impronta del “sé”, una mano o un movimento. Interagendo con materiale fotografico e condizioni attuali nel processo di lavoro, Nadjana Mohr e Björn Knapp rivelano diversi strati nelle loro opere o utilizzano la loro sovrapposizione per la scoperta di nuovi motivi.
L’obiettivo è quello di fornire una visualizzazione delle possibilità della pittura e dell’impronta pittorica, nel senso della parola o della sua estensione, “strato”. Entrambe le posizioni spaziano da un minimalismo che si estende nel regno della plastica (dipinti in gesso) alla pittura concepita su tavola. È come se entrambi gli artisti percepiscano la pittura come il risultato di un atto quasi performativo che prende forma attraverso la ripetizione e la sovrapposizione.
Björn Knapp (1988) ha studiato alla Kunstakademie Karlsruhe dal 2012 al 2015 e alla Kunstakademie Düsseldorf dal 2015 al 2020, dove si è diplomato come ‘Meisterschüler’ , Prof Thomas Scheibitz. Nel 2020 ha partecipato alla mostra collettiva Genius Loci 8 alla SETAREH Gallery di Düsseldorf ed è stato esposto al Salondergegenwart. Nel 2021 ha fatto parte della mostra Coming to voice al K21. Le sue opere sono state acquistate dalla Kunstsammlung NRW e dal Kunstpalast Düsseldorf. Vive e lavora Düsseldorf.
Nadjana Mohr (1987). Vive e lavora a Colonia ed è membro del consiglio di amministrazione di Simultanhalle dal 2023. Nel 2014 ha completato i suoi studi di pittura presso l’Accademia statale di belle arti di Karlsruhe, Prof. Tatjana Doll, e, ha frequentato la KunstAkademie di Düsseldorf , Prof. Katharina Grosse. Nel 2021 e nel 2022 le è stato conferito l’Art Prize of the Friends of KunstWerk Köln e.V. e il Premio Promotore del Concorso Artistico del Museo Diocesano Rottenburg-Stuttgart.

The word “Stratum” encompasses multiple definitions, making it a universal term to describe a particular form of “layer” in one’s field of expertise. Expanded with the fleshy color pink, the exhibition “Stratum Pink” is addressed to the physical counterpart.
The works of Nadjana Mohr and Björn Knapp are based on an approach in which the (own) body serves as a catalyst for the development of painting. A common approach is the understanding that painting always derives its legitimacy through an imprint of the “self,” a hand, or a movement. By engaging with photographic material and current conditions in the working process, Nadjana Mohr and Björn Knapp reveal layers in their works or utilize their overlay for motif discovery.
The goal is to provide a display of the possibilities of painting today and the pictorial imprint, in the sense of the word or its extension, “Stratum.” Both positions range from a minimalism that extends into the realm of the plastic (plaster paintings) to the conceived panel painting. It is likely that both artists perceive painting as the result of a quasi-performative act that takes shape through repetition and overlay.
Björn Knapp (1988) studied at the Kunstakademie Karlsruhe from 2012 to 2015 and at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 2015 to 2020, where he graduated as a ‘Meisterschüler’ of Thomas Scheibitz. In 2020 he participated in the group show Genius Loci 8 at SETAREH Düsseldorf and was shown at salondergegenwart. In 2021 he was part of the graduates exhibition Coming to voice at K21. His works have been purchased by the Kunstsammlung NRW and the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf. Lives and works in Düsseldorf.
Nadjana Mohr (1987) lives and works in Cologne and has been a member of the board of trustees of Simultanhalle since 2023. In 2014, she completed her studies in painting at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe under Tatjana Doll as a master student, and as a guest student, she attended the Art Academy Düsseldorf under Katharina Grosse. In 2021 and 2022, she was awarded the Art Prize of the Friends of KunstWerk Köln e.V. and the Promotion Prize of the Art Competition of the Diocesan Museum Rottenburg-Stuttgart.
