With Cryptic Species – Listening to the Unseen, Cima Città wants to invite you to look behind or beneath the surfaces, to deal with the invisible, the non-visible, the unseen or inconspicuous. Cryptic Species elude legibility, communicate in code, are suspect to us, ambiguous, enigmatic – they are difficult or impossible to interpret or grasp. The confrontation with cryptic species thus demands processes and procedures from us that move outside established structures, norms and laws.

In 2022, six projects can be funded within this framework.

Cima Città offers:
Two weeks free stay on the Cima Città site
Support per project: CHF 500 for travel expenses or working materials

Exchange with other residency projects on site
Use of work-, rehearsal- and presentation spaces: studio and office rooms, workshop, music rehearsal room, industrial halls (unheated), outdoor spaces (factory grounds, forest, vegetable garden)
Overnight accommodation for a maximum of 14 people (seven double rooms), various common spaces
Large kitchen for cooking (there is no catering available on the premises)
Per diems cannot be covered.
If desired, the selected projects can be accompanied in terms of content. Mentorships with the Cima Città team and active networking with related projects are possible, as well as support in the planning and implementation of a showing at the end of the stay.

The call for projects is addressed to artists, scientists, craftspeople, activists, nerds and all other curious minds looking for a suitable place to engage in an intensive research phase. Applications are open to people from all disciplines. The project should be in an early research phase.

Cima would like to encourage applicants to organize a small public showing at the end of their residency (for friends,residents and local community). Cima Città offers support in organizing and carrying out final presentations of any kind.
