Federica Di Pietrantonio e Andrea Frosolini. Dumpster Love Yourself

Venerdì 25 marzo alle 18, Adiacenze inaugura Dumpster Love Yourself, la prima bi-personale in galleria di Federica Di Pietrantonio e Andrea Frosolini, a cura di Alessandra Ioalè e Adiacenze. Il finissage della mostra si svolgerà nell’ambito di ART CITY Bologna 2022 in occasione di ARTEFIERA.
Ricorrendo alla nozione di “scarto” posta dal critico Nicolas Bourriaud, i giovani artisti romani propongono una versione alternativa alla nostra realtà sociale contemporanea imposta, che ne metta in discussione la sua cultura “normalizzante”. Con una cifra stilistica strutturata e riconoscibile, che nell’estetica richiama il video della canzone Dumpster Love Yourself degli youtuber simgmproductions (da cui prende il titolo il progetto), Di Pietrantonio e Frosolini rielaborano ciò che prelevano dai movimenti underweb e da quelle sottoculture a cui si accede prevalentemente online, di cui fanno esperienza diretta. Queste realtà di nicchia, considerate “scarti” dalla cultura dominante (pur subendo un consumo mainstream), vengono tradotte negli spazi di Adiacenze in un unico ambiente concreto attraverso una serie di opere inedite, realizzate in coppia e singolarmente dai due artisti. Se Di Pietrantonio esplora le città del videogioco The Sims in una riflessione su ciò che possa essere ritenuto essenziale in un universo virtuale, Frosolini si concentra sulla costruzione e ri-definizione dell’identità. Infine, i due artisti si confrontano come coppia AFFDP secondo le pratiche del flirt e del salvataggio reciproco.
In questo scenario, le opere rappresentano sia dei contro-modelli sociali che spronano a una revisione di quelli imposti, sia dei dispositivi di conoscenza e di accesso alle diverse realtà collegate in rete. Nello spazio espositivo, così, si riflette il senso fluido e la facilità d’accesso a quella moltitudine caotica di realtà connesse online, rendendo palese l’aspetto dicotomico del benessere digitale vissuto da generazioni diverse, ponendo lo spettatore nella medesima prospettiva di chi “propone” e di chi “consuma”. Emerge inoltre la visione della realtà virtuale non più come luogo in cui rifugiarsi, ma come estensione della realtà concreta, che si trasforma in una nuova comfort zone, dove il tempo è eterocronico ed è possibile solo navigare.
On Friday 25th March at 6 pm Adiacenze inaugurates Dumpster Love Yourself, the first bi-personal exhibition in the gallery by Federica Di Pietrantonio and Andrea Frosolini, curated by Alessandra Ioalè and Adiacenze. The finissage of the exhibition will be held within the framework of ART CITY Bologna 2022 on the occasion of ARTEFIERA.
Referring to the notion of “waste” raised by the critic Nicolas Bourriaud, the young Roman artists propose an alternative version of our imposed contemporary social reality, questioning its “normalising” culture. With a structured and distinctive stylistic code, whose aesthetic is reminiscent of the video of the song Dumpster Love Yourself by the youtuber simgmproductions (from which the project takes its title), Di Pietrantonio and Frosolini rework what they take from underweb movements and from those subcultures which can be accessed mainly online, and which they experience first-hand. These niche realities that are considered “waste” by the dominant culture (in spite of undergoing mainstream consumption) are translated in the spaces of Adiacenze into a single concrete environment through a series of new works, created in pairs and individually by the two artists. If Di Pietrantonio explores the cities of the videogame The Sims reflecting on what could be considered essential in a virtual universe, Frosolini focuses on the construction and re-definition of identity. They then confront each other as a duo (AFFDP) according to flirt and mutual rescue practices.
In this scenario, the works represent social counter-models, calling for a rethinking of those that are imposed, and devices of knowledge and access to different realities linked online. This way, in the exhibition space, the fluid sense and the ease in accessing that chaotic multitude of online connected realities is highlighted, making clear the dichotomous aspect of digital wellness that is experienced by different generations by placing the spectator in the same perspective of those who “propose” and those who “consume”. Here emerges a vision of virtual reality no longer as a place in which to shelter, but as an extension of concrete reality, which is turned into a new comfort zone where time is heterochronic and it is only possible to browse.
