G.T. Pellizzi. Illuminations
RIBOT è lieta di presentare ILLUMINATIONS, la prima personale in Italia dell’artista messicano G.T. Pellizzi (Morelos, 1978. Vive e lavora tra New York e il Messico); una selezione di sculture luminose realizzate in occasione della mostra.
Create con materiali semplici, queste articolate costellazioni luminose sono realizzate con tubi metallici simili a quelli impiegati per le impalcature da cantiere e lampadine alogene rosse, gialle e blu, ovvero i tre colori primari. Siano essi utilizzati per creare sculture a parete o composizioni poste sul pavimento, questi elementi sono densi di riferimenti che hanno a che fare con diverse discipline e che rimandano a quell’atmosfera industriale che è la cifra caratteristica dei loft newyorkesi non ancora investiti da importanti lavori di riqualificazione.
I livelli di lettura delle opere sono molteplici e variano a seconda che ci si focalizzi sul colore, sulla forma o sulla peculiare dinamica della loro relazione. Attraverso queste sculture Pellizzi non intende proporre delle verità o dei postulati, piuttosto generare domande, evocare situazioni e innescare discussioni.
“Opere aperte” dove coabitano dimensione terrena e celeste, che sono al contempo un omaggio al costruttivismo latino-americano, a Julio Le Parc, a Mondrian e al minimalismo, e una riflessione sui temi legati alla trasformazione del paesaggio urbano e alla gentrificazione. Strutturazioni organizzate seguendo linee rette di tubi il cui andamento potrebbe essere sovrapponibile sia a grafici atti ad analizzare sistemi finanziari, che a definire costellazioni, come del resto il loro titolo suggerisce. Si tratta insomma di dispositivi vitali, che traggono la loro energia dalla costante tensione formale e ideale che si genera osservandole.
Con i materiali utilizzati per le Constellation esposte, l’artista ha inoltre realizzato uno special project in 8 esemplari + 2 prove d’artista. Una scultura luminosa verticale che rimanda all’elemento primigenio, il modulo costruttivo che ripetendosi compone i suoi lavori più complessi.

RIBOT is pleased to present ILLUMINATIONS, the first solo exhibition in Italy by Mexican artist G.T. Pellizzi (Morelos, 1978. Lives and works between New York and Mexico); including a selection of light sculptures specifically created for the exhibition.
Created with simple materials, these luminous articulated constellations are made with metal tubes similar to those used for construction scaffolding and the 3 primary-color-red, yellow and blue-halogen bulbs. Whether they are used to create wall sculptures or compositions placed on the floor, these elements are full of cross-disciplinary references that refer to the industrial atmosphere that characterizes New York lofts not yet invested by major redevelopment work.
The works can be read in multiple ways which vary in terms of the focus: upon the color, shape or on the peculiar dynamics of their relationship. Through these sculptures Pellizzi does not propose truths or postulates, but rather generates questions, evokes situations and triggers discussions. “Open works” where earthly and celestial dimensions cohabit; and at same time they are a tribute to Latin American constructivism, Julio Le Parc, Mondrian and minimalism, as well as a reflection on themes related to the transformation of the urban landscape and gentrification. Structures organized by following straight lines of tubes that could be superimposed both on attempts to analyze financial systems graphically and, as their title suggests, to define constellations. In short, they are vital devices, which draw their energy from the constant formal and ideal tension that is generated by observing them.
With the materials used for the Constellations exhibited, the artist has also created a special project in 8 parts + 2 artist’s proofs: a vertical luminous sculpture that refers to the primordial element, the constructive module that by repeating itself composes his most complex works.
