La mostra Gabriele Grones. Conversazioni dopo il successo riscosso a Ca’ Pesaro viene presentata dall’11 marzo al 14 maggio presso Boccanera Gallery nello spazio di Trento.
Gabriele Grones (Arabba, 1983), scelto da Ca’ Pesaro nel 2020 per il programma Level 0 di ArtVerona, ha realizzato una serie di lavori inediti in dialogo con alcune opere selezionate della collezione permanente, sviluppando delle conversazioni immaginarie artistiche e concettuali con gli artisti e le loro opere.
La pittura di Gabriele Grones si esprime per somiglianze, attraverso pennellate che raccontano verità del mondo naturale.
Gabriele Grones utilizza il linguaggio della figurazione dando forma agli elementi del quotidiano. Racconta della sua esperienza personale, elaborando, attraverso la propria sensibilità, i generi tradizionali della composizione pittorica: ritratti, nature morte, natura.
Di fronte ai suoi lavori si potrebbe parlare di una visione amplificata dei soggetti. L’approccio pittorico figurativo di Grones avviene attraverso un procedimento lento di appropriazione dell’immagine. L’artista scatta numerose fotografie che, una volta accostate, andranno a suggerire il modello compositivo.
L’esito pittorico è però diverso dalla realtà: per scarti minimi la composizione vive una vita propria. Il volto ritratto sfugge dalla riconoscibilità domestica pronto a diventare icona. Il volto, sia esso femminile o maschile, definisce un modello ideale di rappresentazione per somiglianza ma dunque non per assoluti.
I dipinti di natura non rappresentano la casualità ma piuttosto il racconto di un momento personale, di un ricordo, di una memoria particolare forse appena vissuta. I gerani buttati a terra, come si usa fare quando arriva l’inverno, sono quelli di casa; l’erba pigiata è quella vissuta; il soffione, l’ortica, il cardo spiegano il rapporto con la natura come elemento da studiare e di cui avere cura. Dipingere frammenti di natura significa entrare nel dettaglio di quel sottile e particolare frammento che riesce a rendere unico il tutto.
Dipingere il prato calpestato vuol dire restituire alla natura il suo significato, anche simbolico, di perfezione e di bellezza ideale nella sua fragilità di memento mori che rivive nella pratica contemporanea.
Gabriele Grones nasce ad Arabba (Belluno IT) nel 1983. Vive e lavora tra Rovigo, Milano e New York. Nel 2009 ha conseguito la laurea specialistica in Pittura all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia. Ha partecipato a due edizioni della Biennale di Venezia: Atelier Aperti nel 2005 e Padiglione Accademie nel 2011. Nel 2008 è selezionato al BP Portrait Award alla National Portrait Gallery, Londra. Nel 2016 ha vinto una residenza d’artista presso la ESKFF Foundation al Mana Contemporary, Jersey City (USA).
Ha preso parte a numerose mostre personali e collettive in musei e gallerie, tra i quali: Fort Wayne Museum (Indiana, USA); MEAM (Barcellona); MART (Rovereto); Galleria Civica (Trento); Mall Galleries (Londra); Galerie MZ (Augsburg); Bernarducci Meisel Gallery (New York); Volkskunstmuseum (Innsbruck); National Museum of Fine Arts (La Valletta); Museum of Arts (Cluj); Kunsthalle HB55 (Berlino); Undercurrent Projects Gallery (New York).
Le opere di Gabriele Grones sono inoltre incluse in numerose collezioni pubbliche e private in Italia, Austria, Germania, Spagna, Regno Unito e Stati Uniti d’America.
In the light of its success at Ca’ Pesaro, the exhibition Gabriele Grones. Conversazioni will be on show from 11 March to 14 May at the Boccanera Gallery in Trento.
Gabriele Grones (Arabba, 1983), chosen by Ca’ Pesaro in 2020 for the Level 0 programme at ArtVerona, has devised a series of new works in dialogue with selected works from the permanent collection, embarking on imaginary artistic and conceptual conversations with the artists and their works.
Gabriele Grones’s painting is expressed through similarities, with brushstrokes that narrate truths from the natural world. Gabriele Grones adopts the language of figuration to give form to everyday elements. He tells of his own personal experience, and through his own sensitivity, elaborates the traditional genres of pictorial composition: portraits, still lifes and nature.
Before his works, we might speak of an amplified vision of his subjects. Grones’s figurative pictorial approach in fact unfolds through a slow process of image appropriation. The artist takes numerous photographs which, once put together, hint at a compositional model. However, the pictorial result is unlike reality: through minimal differences, the composition takes on a life of its own. The face portrayed escapes common recognisability, ready to become an icon. The face, whether female or male, defines an ideal model of representation by means of resemblance yet never in absolute terms.
His nature paintings do not represent randomness but rather the story of a personal moment, of a recollection, of a particular memory – perhaps one just experienced. The geraniums cast onto the ground, as is customary when winter comes, are those of the home; the trampled grass is that which has been experienced; the dandelion, the nettle, the thistle explain the relationship with nature as an element to be studied and cared for. Painting fragments of nature means going into the detail of that subtle and particular fragment that manages to make the whole unique. Painting the trodden lawn means giving nature back its – also symbolic – meaning of perfection and ideal beauty in the fragility of a memento mori, one that comes back to life once more through contemporary practice.
Gabriele Grones was born in Arabba (Belluno IT) in 1983. He lives and works between Rovigo, Milan and New York. In 2009 he graduated in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. He participated in two editions of the Venice Biennale: Atelier Aperti in 2005 and Padiglione Accademie in 2011. In 2008 he was selected for the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London. In 2016 he won an artist residency at the ESKFF Foundation at Mana Contemporary, Jersey City (USA).
