In Search of Refuge
The Kent-Medway Museum Partnership (KMMP NPO), funded by Arts Council England, seek artist proposals for a new artwork which will explore the often-hidden links and impact refugees have had upon our collections, towns, and communities both past and present. Submissions from artists or artist groups working in any medium are welcome.
The commission comprises two elements, the chosen artist or group will be commissioned to:
– Research the links and impacts of refugees as found in the collections of the KMMP NPO partner museums (see below for list of museums and their collections).
– Create a physical object that can be exhibited, and which forms the focus through which audiences can engage with, and further explore the research made by the artist or artist group.
The outputs of the commission should be inspired either by objects already found within one or more of the KMMP NPO museum collections, or by an identified absence of an object significant to the history and communities the museum represents. The commission should cast light upon the untold and unacknowledged stories that exist within the partners’ collections and provide an opportunity for our audiences and visitors to further explore these relationships.
The commission value is £10,000 and proposals must be submitted by 12 noon 17th Dec 2021.
