Jon Rafman. Player Character
Jon Rafman (nato nel 1982), visionario interprete dell’inquieta mente umana, dei flussi di coscienza e delle angosce del presente, esplora l’impatto totalizzante del virtuale nella rappresentazione del nostro tempo. Attraverso un immenso vocabolario che attinge dalla cultura di internet, dal mondo virtuale, dai videogiochi e dalle zone più recondite del web, Rafman crea paesaggi surreali e assoluti, nei quali alimenta un costante senso di perdita e alienazione, di istinto e memoria, di resurrezione e morte, di sacrificio estremo e rinascita. In un mondo oppresso dall’ossessione, dalla paranoia, dal senso di vuoto e di perdita, l’artista ci conduce nei meandri più nascosti del web, tra gli impulsi vischiosi che sostituiscono la realtà e allo stesso tempo la incarnano.
La mostra è a cura di CURA. L’architettura della mostra è progettata da BB. Il primo libro monografico di Jon Rafman, pubblicato da CURA. e progettato da Dan Solbach, sarà lanciato nella primavera del 2024.
A visionary interpreter of the troubled human mind, of the streams of consciousness and the anxieties of the present, Jon Rafman (b. 1982) explores the all-encompassing impact of the virtual within the representation of our time. Through an immense vocabulary drawing from internet culture, virtual world, video games and insinous areas of the web, Rafman creates surreal and absolute landscapes in which he nourishes a constant sense of loss and alienation, of instinct and memory, of resurrection and death, of extreme sacrifice and rebirth. In a world oppressed by obsession, paranoia, a sense of emptiness and loss, the artist leads us into the most concealed realms of the web, among the viscous drives that replace reality and at the same time embody it.
The exhibition is curated by CURA. The exhibition architecture is designed by BB. Jon Rafman’s first monographic book published by CURA. and designed by Dan Solbach will be launched in Spring 2024.
