Tender & Masculine
Situated in the village of Balzan is Malta’s first queer-focused art space, replete with its own physical and digital archive. Named Rosa Kwir, it is the brainchild of Maltese and London-based artist Romeo Roxman Gatt.
LGBTQIA+ artists are invited to contribute to a physical exhibition, launching in September 2022 as part of the programme of events, supported by Arts Council Malta.
This year’s theme is entitled Tender and Masculine, and Rosa Kwir is seeking work by 5 artists that challenge, question, redefine or reflect on conventional and traditional notions of masculinity in relation to gender identity.
Eligibility: Rosa Kwir invites individual or collective artists based anywhere in the world that identify as LGBTQIA+. Rosa Kwir welcomes any creative practice that engages with the provocation set out by the curatorial team. Rosa Kwir requires details of the work (title, medium), brief biography and artist statement (max 200 words each), website and/or social media links.
Each selected artist/collective receives a €500 artist fee and €600 to cover production and/or shipping expenses or in the case of live performance flights and accommodation (with flight allowance capped at €350). The work will be on display at Rosa Kwir from September 30th to December 31st 2022. In addition, the work will be documented and remain part of the digital archive.
