Vincenzo Pagliuca. Bunker
Circa 350 bunker furono edificati prima dello scoppio della seconda guerra mondiale lungo il confine con l’Austria, sul territorio conteso del Sud Tirolo. Un enorme sistema di fortificazioni dismesso dall’esercito nel 1993.
Vincenzo Pagliuca esplora il valore educativo di questo patrimonio che affonda le radici in un capitolo drammatico della storia d’Europa e altresì nelle metamorfosi potenziali nel futuro. Da quella organica che lascia alla natura il compito di nascondere la tragedia nell’oblio vegetale del tempo, a quella della volontà prometeica che piega anche i bunker a nuove funzioni, nuova vita, ad un fine sempre e del tutto umano. Alla conservazione che manifesta elementi architettonici e ne esalta la bellezza come atto eroico, fino ai bunker tali e quali, in cui non vi è sopravvento sulla storia, ma dura memoria, e dunque riflessione.

About 350 bunkers were built before the outbreak of the Second World War along the border between Italy and Austria, on the disputed territory of South Tyrol. A huge system of fortifications was decommissioned by the army in 1993.
Vincenzo Pagliuca explores the educational value of this heritage, rooted in a dramatic chapter of European history, as well as its future potential metamorphoses: from the organic one, which leaves to nature the task of burying the tragedy under the vegetal oblivion of time, to the one sparked from that Promethean will that bends even bunkers to new functions, to new life, to an end that is always and entirely human; from preservation, which reveals architectural elements exalting their beauty as a heroic act, to the bunkers as they are, an image where there is no overpowering of history, just harsh memory and, therefore, reflection.
